About

Cannabis Defense Coalition is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, membership organization devoted to reducing the harms associated with drug use. We advocate sensible, science-based drug policy, and for the health, safety and civil liberties of individuals and communities affected by drugs.

As members of the human community, we share a vision of a peaceful world based on compassion and understanding, one that celebrates art, diversity and liberty, built atop democratic, people-powered institutions.

Cannabis Defense Coalition is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit member cooperative. We are based on the principle of one member, one vote. Membership dues are currently set at $40 per calendar year. If you are interested in joining the Cannabis Defense Coalition, you can press zero to speak with a volunteer or leave a message.

Or you can check out our web site at cdc.coop, and click the about link where you can find our bylaws, accounting information, and membership application. We welcome new members, we'd love to have you aboard, and last, but not least, we'd be honored to earn your support. Thanks for your interest in the Coalition.

Medical marijuana law

Most of this comes from the Washington State Medical Marijuana FAQ.

Initiative 692 was passed by 59% of Washington voters on November 3, 1998. It is codified in the Revised Code of Washington as Chapter 69.51A. I-692 allows for the medical use of marijuana by patients with certain terminal or debilitating conditions. It authorizes physicians to advise patients about the risks and benefits of the medical use of marijuana. Qualifying patients and their designated providers may use the law as an "affirmative defense" in court if they are prosecuted. The law does not protect patients or caregivers from arrest or prosecution, it only allows them to present a medical marijuana defense in court.

I-692 does not affect federal law, which still makes marijuana possession, distribution or manufacture illegal for any purpose.

As of July 2008, the terminal or debilitating medical conditions for which medical marijuana may be used in Washington State include the following:

  • (a) Cancer, human immunodeficiency virus or HIV, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy or other seizure disorder, or spasticity disorders
  • (b) Intractable pain
  • (c) Glaucoma, either acute or chronic
  • (d) Chrohn's Disease
  • (e) Hepatitis C
  • (f) Diseases, including anorexia, which result in nausea, vomiting, wasting, appetite loss, cramping, seizures, muscle spasms, or spasticity, when these symptoms are unrelieved by standard treatments or medications
