Adopt-A-Highway cleanup Saturday, April 23

The Cannabis Defense Coalition adopted a section of Highway 169 in Maple Valley, Washington. On September 3, 2009, the Department of Transportation installed our sign, and we had our first clean-up on September 27, 2009.

Our next scheduled adopt-a-highway cleanup and outreach drive is Saturday, April 23, 2011. We meet at mile post 15 at high noon to clean up our stretch of the Maple Valley High Way. Look for our base camp being hosted by us and other local cannabis organizations.

Cannabis Defense Coalition Adopt-A-Highway

On our first Adopt-A-Hwy adventure 8 people showed up including 4 members and 4 non-members. After reading the safety brochure and watching the film we decorated our yellow hard hats with the Stop Arresting sticker. It took us about 3 1/2 hours to fill over 30 bags plus larger debris piled on the side. The most interesting things found were a Nintendo DS Batman cartridge, a card key, 3 credit cards still valid, a large sea shell, several carriage bolts, too many soda bottles with yellow liquid, about 30 nails in one spot, hub caps - one good huge Ford a few others broken and about 2 dollars in cans to recycle. Everybody worked diligently and well together for our inaugural Adopt-A-Highway clean-up day. Our next clean-up day will be in April which is a required date by the DoT. Now that we have experience, the next time will go a little smoother and maybe we can do more signage for our ultimate quest, the Cannabis Defense Coalition. Thanks go beyond Thank You to everybody who participated in this adventure.

On our second adventure in April of 2010 we had 15 participants that collected 39 bags of litter in 4 hours and 20 minutes. We hosted the Legalization petition I-1068 along with voter registration and a few cars stopped in for more information. Go Team!!

Several of our members have joined because they saw our sign. this is a good thing, so come on out and participate. The locals honk their horns in support and gratitude for our presence.
